A Giveaway and Nomination #3

Today's the third day for participating in the blog challenge that Terry nominated me for. Drop over to www.terryknott.blogspot.com to see what she's been up to.

The rules:
1) Thank the person that nominated you.
Terry, you know how much I've enjoyed this, Thanks!

2) Post a quote each day, for three days.
You can't use up creativity.  The more you use, the more you have.   Maya Angelou

3) Nominate a new blogger each of the three days.
My nomination today is Lynda. You can invest some time reading about her various activities on her blog. www.Lynda@BloomBakeCreate.com

So this finishes my part of a fun little blog challenge. It's been fun gathering the quotes. It was very difficult deciding on which three bloggers I would nominate. There are so many talented folks out there that I enjoy following.

Now, on to my own challenge! I have a quilt back that I was preparing for my Desert Sky quilt. I wrote about it yesterday. In case you missed yesterday, here is how far the quilt top has gotten. I think it needs a border. Yes, definitely!
Next is a picture of how the back started coming together. I wanted to use some of the same fabrics as the front, for a focus row. I had two units left over from the front and chose to include them also.
My thought was to put another strip of the aqua on the top and bottom. Then flank both sides with some coordinating larger pieces. Then add a final oversized border that would get trimmed down after the quilting was done. Well, that was the original plan. I realized I still had several of strips left in my basket. I wanted to utilize the fabric that I had already cut into. So, I made two more strips and attached them to each side. And that's when it happened!
Here came the 'challenge'. I'm beginning to look at this as a quilt top, not a backing!  I've made reversible quilts before. They are usually for kids. This one has a lot of piecing hours into it. I have already got an idea of where I want to display it. It just seems like a waste to put this backing together and have it look at a wall for the rest of its life!
And I can always come up with a couple of backings, or at least I can try.  I'm sure you're chuckling a little about that comment, considering what just happened.

So today, I'm really hoping to get some feedback from all of you. Please give me your thoughts on whether I continue to make this a backing, or do I 'grow' it into a quilt?  If you are an anonymous commenter, please sign your name at the end of the post.

I haven't had a giveaway in quite some time, so I think this will be a great time to do one! Everyone that leaves a comment, on this post, will have their name put in the drawing. I will notify the winner(s) in April. PS. Do you remember the drawing last summer? The one where EVERYONE, got a gift package.  That could happen again,,, just saying, you never know!

Luann, I outright giggled when I read that you were considering your back to become a top! I had that similar tug with my blueberry/lime quilt. What decided it for me was that I have at least five projects fairly close to the top stage. Some are large projects. The question I asked myself was did I want to have another project to quilt on my domestic or did I want to play with these other projects? I decided I didn't need to be making another whole quilt. Mine is a lap quilt size so I can enjoy one side one time and the other side the next! I look forward to what other people have to say! By the way, your quote of the day is one of my favorites and it is TRUE! Happy quilting!!!--Terry

Hahaha Luann!!! I really like it as a quilt top :-) BUT do you want to do another project...that it's the question (I would, but I only have one quilt I've made)

I do LOVE the back, honestly, even more than the front. I thought so when you first posted it on the forums, but that is just me. If it were going to be a lap quilt/couch throw/bed quilt, I'd say make it a reversible quilt. Since you plan the real front to be a wall hanging, and this lovely back never get the light of day.....well, I'd not be able to.

OR, another option, instead of a hanging sleeve at the back, can you do a hanging pocket at the top (similar to a curtain has) so that it can become a reversible wall hanging? Or too much trouble...??

Whatever you do, I know it will be wonderful! (Heather/Learning-As-I-Go)

First of all thanks for the nomination. I'll work on it for next week.

As for this quilt back, it's way to pretty to face the wall. Even before you put those two strips on it, I thought it needed to be out front. So I vote for you making it into another quilt or wall hanging.

Oh my goodness, Luann, you have a 2nd quilt top going! The first top is stunning and now your second one is so lovely as well. I hope you keep going and have 2 quilts. I love the colors and the NY Beauty blocks you've done. I hope you do other backings and keep both pieces of work for a front. :) (from TQS)

Luann, I love both the back and the front. I vote to make it reversible, or find another backing for the first quilt and make the second a quilt on it own.

Luann, I would definitely make the back up into a quilt in its own right unless you're going to make it into a bed quilt or throw where you could get the enjoyment of the two sides. That "back" definitely doesn't want to spend the rest of its life looking at a wall. Although, if you did make it as a wall hanging, I suppose you could turn it around every so often.
