Reflections on January

Slowing down the fast pace of life can be challenging. I believe it is each person’s own inner rhythm that needs to be honored. 

Early in January I did the necessary re-stitching of this block. It’s now ready to get the appliques. 

I purchased an afghan kit from BluPrint last year. I was determined that all of the yarn was going to be used. I have less than 9 feet left.

And the last little bit was used for this infinity scarf.

This sign is intriguing. 

After seeing the movie Harriet, this bridge has more meaning than ever.

10” squares of batiks and solids ready for an upcoming workshop. These were cut from the fabric I kept on hand from the  13 bags I received early in the month. 

Fabric was piled high on all flat surfaces. The majority has already been taken to the storage unit for dispersing to charitable causes. 

Floors were covered as the pipes were replace under the house. AttaBoy Plumbing sent a full crew and their portion of the job was finished in one day.  We were able to get the drywall holes taken care of and all is painted. Now it’s just the put-everything-away portion of the job....

It’s funny how overwhelming a one-day project can feel. It’s all the emptying of spaces and piling it ‘somewhere’ so it isn’t in the way. However, all’s well that ends well. 

 These fabrics are for a special Block of the Month. We will make the first 2 blocks with our fabrics. Then put them and the rest of our chosen fabrics into a box. Each month the boxes are passed along to another Box Buddy. Over the next 5 months, 5 other quilters will make 2 blocks for the assigned box with the fabrics provided by the Box Owner. In August we should get any leftover fabric and our original 2 blocks back, along with 10 blocks made by our Buddies. This is going to be quite fun. 

At Quilters Day Out on January 18. I put together 6 large blocks from these fabrics.  Next step: sashings and borders as was suggested by the pattern, or I may split each of those large blocks into 4 smaller ones (disappearing 9 Patch style), then add the sashings, borders, etc... time will tell. 

The pink camellia gave us some beautiful blooms early in January. 

Wendy sent me a pair of fingerless mitts for when the temps are low enough to make the steering wheel uncomfortable.

Tossed after reading 150 pages of a 400+ page book. It was dragging me down emotionally. There was nothing light and entertaining to me like the first three books by this author were. So, out it went. PS I did skip to the end thinking that if it had some redeeming quality for me I would continue to read it, but I couldn’t find it. Others may enjoy it tremendously but it was a ‘heavy’ read and not something for this season of my life. 

I did a little skimming and realized that this book belong  ‘off’ my shelf along with Beartown. 

I will say though that I thoroughly enjoyed the first three books by Fredrick Blackman.
