Sun printing with Setacolors

The weather forecast was for some sunshine between 10am and 2pm. I got things ready shortly after 10 and had a go at it with Setacolor fabric paints. Some were opaque, while others were transparent.  They all ended up mooshed together in the end. My colors aren't showing up very nicely, as they are a beautiful array of blues, silvers, and one has copper. I think I need to wait for daytime lighting for my best colors to show.
This first picture is where I used whifle balls and tried to put color where I wanted it.

I like this one, it reminds me of sunflowers, so I will move forward from there.
These next ones had bulldog clips, or rubber bands dropped on them.

This one had a rubber door mat put on top.

These next two pictures are of my favorites of the day. I used some 12" square stencils that I purchased while I was at The Quilt Expo in Madison, WI  at the beginning of September.

The one above is just the previous one with the excess fabric folded back.
I used a black on white print fabric that I have done several different techniques on since the beginning of 2014. I had ordered a full bolt thru My Favorite Quilt Shop in Green Bay, WI. It came in with a more open weave than we had anticipated, so instead of using it for the original purpose, I have been experimenting with it.

Well, that's it for today's creating adventure.
What have you been up to?

Remember to enjoy the journey.

Lola Jenkins Workshop: Totally fun!

While I was in Green Bay, WI at the beginning of the month I took a workshop with Miss Bubbles.  Lola Jenkins is one of the most interesting and fun people I've met. This is the fabric portrait piece that I worked on. I will tell you more about my trip in future posts, but for now, I just wanted to get this picture posted for you to see.

Awesome teacher indeed!

24 Step Color Wheel

I've been so impressed with Candy Glendening's classes on Candiedfabrics.com that I am currently working on a 24 step color wheel of 5" squares. It was nice to have her response to a question I posed about doing this in a matter of minutes. I know she won't always be at the computer like today. That's fine, just knowing that she DOES get back to you with answers is appreciated.

I've been dyeing cotton pfd fabric for about two years now. I did take quite a bit of time off during the moving process that we went thru last summer. I finally got my supplies out and got going again after taking online classes with Candy.

Lynda over at The Bloom Bake Create blog had commented about taking Candy's latest offering so I checked into it. I decided that I wanted to learn the Candied Fabric approach from the beginning. I have become more of an Intentional Dyer. At present I am making swatches of colors using various reds, yellows, and blues as my primaries. All the formulas I use are part of the course offerings.

I now understand just how much dye stock is needed for a specific size of fabric.  I can decide which colors I want more of, dye that amount of fabric, and my results will be what I want. I won't be wasting time, fabric, dye, or my patience!

My first picture is of the sample swatches of the watermelon (red), daffodil (yellow), and azure (blue) that I am using as my primaries today. The second picture is 21 more little goodies, batching in the sun.

I have already done the first rinsing, and they are back in the little containers with cold water and ice cubes on top. If all goes well, I will add a picture of them drying yet tonight.

Here's the picture of those little swatches all lined up. They are so tiny on this drying rack, but they are just what I want. After they are dry I will iron them and see how the color mixology worked.

Here is a picture of the ironed pieces. Colors are quite close to the actual pieces.

So, that's  what I did creatively today. How about you?

When does your "new" year begin?

Sounds like a strange question, doesn't it?

This topic came up while having coffee with the hubby this morning.

The most obvious would be January 1st of any year.
September and the beginning of the school year is another possibility.
A fiscal year, for businesses and their healthcare plans, can start any month.
The  Chinese New Year, which changes each year.
There are religious events that could be used as the beginning of a "new" year, such as Easter.
And what about the anniversary day of your birth, marriage, or some other significant event in your life?
Then there's always July 1st. This is the date so often used for making a new set of resolutions.

Well, by now, I'm sure you have the idea. I think that throughout the year we have many new beginnings, new year startings. The one that's the most important? It is the one that is happening today.

So, whether you've been highly creative, moderately busy, or just dreaming about it,

Three month update,,,

I just checked out the last date of posting. Wow, have I been away from this. Well, best way is to just do a recap of the past three months, and move forward.

I am checking thru my planner for notes on what I've been up to.

StitchinFingers swapping activities have been moving along. I've been making ATCS and Post Cards for each of the Birthday ladies. My altered fabrics have been a lot of fun.
I've made fabric book pages with the following themes:
landscape,

Nature,

Spring,

And the first one- journey

I have been working thru some art lessons.
 This is an ongoing work.

I've taken several fabric dyeing classes, and have taken a more Intentional Approach.

I've made my own gelli plates and done quite a bit of printing with them. This is one that I gave away!

Well, I'm going to post this before I lose the wifi connection.

Happening Today

I've just opened the two boxes I received today. I'm excited to say the least.

First box was the Aztec air brush that I ordered. I am sure I need more accs but for now I need to just learn how it works. I'm thinking it'll do some unique stencil designs onto fabric.

Second box was from Superior Threads. I joined Superior University and this is my first shipment. I'm looking forward to learning new techniques with new materials. There was an assortment of thread, needles, and a formable stabilizer. Along with DVD and information booklet. I'll post pics of my work as I do each lesson. You can work at your own pace. Once a month you get a shipment of unique threads and notions, along with information on how to use them, and a project.

More excitement was had as I opened the lid of the dye chest and saw how beautiful the banana fabric is looking. My only concern is, I'm so loving how it looks NOW, and I know things change by the time I'm ironing the finished out fabrics. Only time will tell if I get some of those intense colors you see on the side without the ice cubes, in this photo below.

Well, I'm off to make lunch, have some tea, and dream (daydream) in color.

My hubby just came in with the rest of the mail,,yeah,,,another piece of fabric from a Stitchin fingers friend!

I am blessed,

Dyed Fabrics and Moving On

Today I want to show you what became of the fabrics that hit the dye bath on Friday.

This was a deep orange to begin with. I absolutely adore the little person in the middle. In a close up you can see that her arm is extended forward and raised, as if dangling a bug from her finger.

This is about a yard of muslin, natural. Oh, the possibilities these bring to mind!

And now for the shots of before and afters.

This was that first one it's about a yard piece.

This one is actually 18x108. I'm thinking of wall hanging, would go nicely in the  vaulted ceiling area of my stairwell.

Here are four pieces of folded and rubber banded pfd white

Well those are the pieces that are done to this point. I've also posted them on my Pinterest page, Luann Fischer , this board is at the bottom at this time. I will need to get on the PC upstairs to move it to the front area.

Time to go pull out some muslin, and pfd that I'm washing.  Next it goes into the so da ash bath, then drying and pressing.

Until next time,
